Robert Pattinson, star of “Twilight” has been slowly leaving behind the constantreflection vampire, will have to demonstrate on 22 April in the film “Water forElephants” which is the interpretive strength not to be pigeonholed in the character of Edward Cullen, who has represented four times.The British actor will return in November to the big screen with another version of the vampire series since the end of 2012 will present the second part, the grand finale of the book by Stephenie Meyer. But before awakening the fury of the masses with the popular series, will realize other records as a performer alongside Reese Witherspoon in “Water for Elephants”, and then sharing the bill with Uma Thurman in “Bel Ami”.
The film, based on the bestseller of the same name by Sara Gruen, recounts the adventures of a veterinary student named Jacob (Pattinson) that after the death of his father decides to leave school and embark on a train that is still a circus. There he met the artist Marlena (Witherspoon) and falls for her. The two share a love of circus animals, but have to cope with her husband (Christoph Waltz) to consummate their relationship. The film, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set in the era of the Great Depression.
The actor, listed by Time magazine as one of the most influential people worldwide, confessed that the love scene was difficult to shoot because he was unwell that day. “Usually I do not feel weird doing this sort of thing, except that I felt bad for the gut and had a stuffy nose all the time,” he said.
While the love scene was not much chemistry between the actors, screen couple shared a passion for animals. The last day of recording Witherspoon wept at parting from the nearly 4,000 kilos elephant named Tai. “It was one of the most important film experiences of my life. You work with actors and directors but have a relationship with a nonverbal animal they were all so connected it was magical,” he said.
For its part, Pattinson coincided with the actress from New Orleans who fell in love while shooting the elephant. “It’s an incredible creature,” said 24 year old actor.
And during one scene, the elephant had to lift it with his trunk. “It was the most amazing thing in the world. I got up with his trunk. He set the correct strength to not hurt me. It is very strange,” he confessed.
However, the mammal is not so well behaved in all shots. Pattinson account that there were scenes where I had to show much emotion and suddenly received a slap of the pachyderm and lost inspiration. Despite these obstacles, the young believe that working with animals made the whole experience more interesting.
It seems that the director’s strategy of bringing the players to know Tai the elephant on a ranch in Perris, California, had the desired effect. “I’ll be honest. I used the trip to see elephants as a fodder for the actors,” Lawrence joked on occasion with the press.
Between elephants and circus scenes, Pattinson can begin to take flight away from the long shadow of the series “Twilight”, in addition to money and love, has brought opportunities like this which opens in a few days.
