In a radical departure for the 19 year-old actress, Kristen plays a 16 year old drug addicted runaway stripper and occasional prostitute in the low budget indie flick, which also stars The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Saturday (23.01.2010). And Kristen, who has been the focus of much “Is she, or isn’t she?” speculation as to whether she’s dating Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, told reporters how shooting the movie had proved a real challenge.
“My character's not sultry, not sexy," commented Kristen whose naked rear end can be seen in several scenes. "She sort of throws herself into all her moves. I tore myself up doing it."
In the movie, Kristen spends most of her time done up in a skimpy mini skirt, fishnet stockings and a bra and admitted being fazed. "the first time I put on all the fishnets...I really tried to own it though.”
She added:“I was literally walking down the street in cut-off shorts and a robe that was cinched. I looked like a crackhead."
To prepare for the movie, which was shot in 2008, weeks before the Autumn release of blockbuster Twilight , the young star also revealed she spent two weeks with a stripper learning to pole dance.
“I wanted to do it in my clothes," she told reporters on the red carpet but revealed that her stripper trainer 'was like, 'No, you don't stick to the pole when you do that.'"
Kristen is the bookies favourite to win the 2010 BAFTA Rising Star award at next months awards ceremony-the only award voted for by the public.
